Labbrand worked with CeraVe to create the Chinese brand name 适乐肤, bringing products that are simple, soothing and friendly to all skin type to Chinese consumers.
CeraVe was founded in 2005 and acquired by L’Oréal in 2017. The CeraVe story began after experts noticed that many skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and dry skin all had one thing in common: a compromised skin barrier. Developed with dermatologists, CeraVe offers a complete line of skincare products that contain three essential ceramides enhanced with a revolutionary delivery system to help restore the skin’s natural protective barrier.
Labbrand, the leading China-originated global brand consultancy, worked closely with CeraVe and L’Oréal to create the Chinese name for the brand, which aimed to deliver the core attributes of the products – simple, soothing and suited for all skin types.
After rounds of research and testing, we created 适乐肤 [shì lè fū], a Chinese brand name with a smooth-sounding quality which reflects the cosmeceutical brand truth while also maintaining similar pronunciation in Chinese to the original brand name. 适[shì] means suited and proper, implying the versatile fit of CeraVe’s products in catering towards all skin types. 乐 [lè] symbolises happiness and joy, eliciting a calming and easing effect that leads to satisfaction after using CeraVe’s products. Lastly, 肤[fū] directly translates to skin. Combined, the name elicits the pleasant meaning of “proper care for your skin.”
