SHANGHAI, June 30, 2016 – Labbrand VP & Creative Director Amanda Liu and Associate Design Director Sam Yang were invited to give a lecture at Alibaba’s University of UED (User Experience Design) on June 28th, a specialized school within Alibaba Hupan University that is dedicated to the development of the brand’s designers.
In their presentations they shared the technical aspects of brand naming and visual creation, emphasizing how to build an outstanding brand experience. They especially highlighted that in order to create brands with strong vitality, these two tasks have to be carried out simultaneously. Around 300 members of the Alibaba team joined the lecture either in person or digitally via live video streaming.
Located in Hangzhou, Alibaba Hupan University was founded by Jack Ma (Founder of Alibaba), Lun Feng (Chairman of Vantone Group) and 6 other established entrepreneurs. Different than traditional MBA programs, the school seeks to teach real world cases and applications that entrepreneurs face in today’s emerging business age, following the principle “utilize business methods with the public welfare mindset”.
The University of UED was established in 2016 with four branded projects: “Bai Nian UED”, “U Classroom”, “Open Courses”, and “Core Senior Gathering”. “Open Courses” invites experts outside of the Alibaba team to inspire new perspectives on cross-industry collaboration and industry trends.
Labbrand VP & Creative Director Amanda Liu gave a lecture named “The First Step of Branding: Brand Naming Innovation”. She shared her insights on the specifications of the brand naming process, including reasons why foreign brands need a Chinese name, the different typologies of Chinese names, and the trends of brand naming in the digital age. She also gave a preview of brand naming methods offered by Labbrand.
Labbrand Associate Design Director Sam Yang shared his views on the topic “When Brand Experience Meets User Experience”. He shared some examples of good brand design experience and elaborated on its composition, as well as the features and challenges of brand experience in a digital age. He prompted further on how to create unique brand design experience by tapping into User Experience (UX).
The two speakers’ expertise was highly appreciated by the Alibaba team. “Labbrand’s rich experience in brand naming has brought our students a comprehensive and concrete understanding. The delicateness and the very nature of western and eastern brands have been fully demonstrated through words, and have reached a balance in the Chinese market through strokes and semantics. After precisely sketching the brand image, the tight integration of brand and experience can be smoothly applied to every visual detail,” said Mu Shan, Manager of the University of UED.
